Bauhaus design without compromise

The new STERNGLAS Automatic watch is available with a white or black dial. With a diameter of 38mm, the Automatic watch is based on the classic STERNGLAS timepiece. The typical minimalist design is rounded off by high-quality convex sapphire glass, absolutely scratch and break-resistant. The reliable Miyota 8215 clockwork can be viewed at work due to the watch’s transparent casing.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STERNGLAS AUTOMATIC

“A high quality Automatic watch in Bauhaus style and at an affordable price? That must be possible!” We are pleased to be able to present the STERNGLAS Bauhaus Automatic after months of planning and development.

Dustin has always been passionate about classic watches. As a convinced watch lover, of course, the functionality of automatic watches fascinates him as well. Watches that run as if by magic, and without batteries no less! He made the decision to develop one early on. Both quartz and automatic lovers should be able to share in his idea of design. The community also showed great interest in an automatic version of our Bauhaus watch at the time. We received more and more messages with requests for an automatically operated timepiece. Our decision was made. An automatic watch had to be created. High quality, simple, beautiful and affordable.

Over a period of months, we received a lot of positive feedback and some exciting ideas.
Customers kept approaching us with friendly words creating a great exchange, and we wanted to return the gesture. Interested parties should be involved in the development process of our Automatic watch. After a short waiting period, Dustin founded the STERNGLAS customer group on Facebook, in which interested people could express their ideas, suggestions and opinions.

Dustin presented sketches of his automatic designs, but received “mixed” feedback in the first instance. His sketches were too different to the classic STERNGLAS timepiece. The vast majority of the community wanted an automatic version of the well-known design, without any major changes. The basic design was decided. However, we could not resist the filigree lettering in “automatic”.

The next question was whether a second hand should be integrated. This would complement an automatic watch very nicely, because the hand moves across its design very harmoniously and without ticking. The first surveys had already shown that even Dustin is not an omniscient designer, so the community got involved too. Like the STERNGLAS team, the majority of contributors agreed to the inclusion of a second hand.

After the design was decided on, it was literally taken for granted. Which clockwork should form the hear of the STERNGLAS Automatic from now on? To make our decision on the Miyota 8215 Automatic as transparent and accessible as possible, we have quoted Dustin’s post from the Facebook group:

“Many watchmakers are raving about the “Made in Japan” raw material. It is comparatively easy to get and affordable. In addition, we do not have to depend on Swiss companies. On the one hand, due to the bad exchange rate and resulting high prices and, on the other hand, we are safe from protectionist measures, which the material manufacturer ETA noticed last year, among other things. ETA has cut production by 50% and raised prices to make the material accessible to selected brands only. That’s why we’re currently leaning heavily towards Miyota.”

After months of planning and development, finally holding the long-awaited prototype in hand was a great feeling. This was followed by the final decision not to carry out pre-financing against the initial launch of the brand on Kickstarter, but instead a pre-sale through its own online shop. In the past, too many interested people had complained of confusion about the course of Kickstarter campaigns. In addition, we wanted to offer confidence and the greatest possible security through PayPal Buyer Protection.

Last but not least, we would like to thank you once again for the confidence you have placed in us and the great exchange. We are proud to celebrate this great milestone with our great community. Thank you!
