The Moon on Your Wrist

CURRENT MOON PHASE

It is the pure magic of time.

When children ask at night, “Why does the moon hide?”, there is hardly a more beautiful answer than a fairy tale.

For the launch of the first Naos with moon phase, we captured this eternal rhythm in the spirit of the Brothers Grimm.

A small glimpse of what we will soon bring to your wrist together.

Once upon a time, long ago, there was a wondrous companion in the heavens known as the moon. It changed steadily through four forms, guiding humankind through the passage of time.

On some nights, it cloaked itself in a mantle of darkness, so that not a single ray touched the earth. The ancients called this the new moon.

It was a time of rest, when the moon gathered new strength unseen.

    Waxing Crescent

But soon it awoke from its slumber. At first shy, like a delicate crescent, it grew night after night. Its glow grew brighter, driving away the darkness.

The people beheld the waxing crescent.

    Full Moon

At last, it reached its greatest splendor as the full moon.
Round and flawless like a coin of pure silver.

Its light was so powerful that it bathed the world in a magical glow, ruling as king over the darkness.

    Waning Crescent

And yet, all things have their time. Its glow began to gently fade, and it became the waning crescent.

Piece by piece, it withdrew, until it stepped back into the shadows, ready to begin the eternal dance of time anew.

    • What is the purpose of a moon phase on a watch?
The moon phase displays the current stage of the lunar cycle. When correctly set, the moon slowly emerges from behind the earth and disappears again on the opposite side. This allows you to see at a glance whether the moon is waxing or waning.

When did watches with moon phase first appear?
The moon phase is one of the oldest complications in watchmaking. It recalls a time when the rhythm of the moon shaped everyday life.

How does a moon phase display work mechanically?
A rotating moon disc moves in the fixed rhythm of the lunar cycle. Step by step, it reveals the changing phases of the moon.
