From the First Idea to a Product Family
STERNGLAS is deeply influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy. To us, this means more than minimalist dials and clean lines.
A good watch should be easy to read. It should be comfortable to wear. It should never feel unnecessarily complicated. And it should make great design accessible.
That's why we pay close attention to proportions, contrasts, hand lengths, materials, and the details that make a difference in everyday life. How quickly can you read the time? How does the dial look under different lighting conditions? How does the crown feel? How does a different strap change the character of the watch?

Design and Product Developement in Hamburg
Every new idea begins with research, mood boards, sketches, and design variations. We explore case shapes, dial colors, finishes, hand designs, hour marker sizes, and proportions.
But a watch is never just a visual object. It's also a technical product. The movement influences the case thickness, date window placement, available complications, and the watch's overall proportions.
That's why we carefully select the right movement for each model. We work with movements from manufacturers such as Ronda, Miyota, TMI, Epson, and Sellita. What matters most to us is that each movement is reliable, robust, easy to service, and well-suited to the intended purpose of the watch.
Prototypen, Samples und Real-World Testing
Before a watch enters series production, we develop samples and prototypes. This is where we find out whether an idea truly works on the wrist.
We evaluate dial colors, printing quality, hand lengths, hour markers, luminous material, case finishes, crystal appearance, crown feel, and overall wearing comfort. We also test how easily the time can be read under different lighting conditions.
Some models are ready for production after just a few rounds of refinements. More complex developments can take considerably longer. Depending on the model, the entire process from the initial idea to the finished watch can take anywhere from several months to two years.
Materials, That Makes Sense for Everyday Wear
We carefully select materials and construction details that reflect our commitment to creating long-lasting watches.
These include double-domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, screw-down case backs, water resistance suitable for everyday use, and a quick-release strap system. Together, these features help ensure your watch is durable, easy to read, and versatile enough for any occasion.
We also prioritize comfort and practicality when it comes to our straps. A simple strap change can completely transform the character of a watch, without the need for any tools.
Every Watch is Carefully Inspected
Quality is an essential part of our entire development and manufacturing process. At our manufacturing partner's facility, every watch head undergoes a series of inspections, including visual checks, timekeeping accuracy tests, water resistance testing, and durability tests.
Every watch is also inspected once again in Germany before shipping. At our logistics facility, we check details such as dial cleanliness, proper movement function, and overall appearance.
This is how we ensure that every STERNGLAS is ready for everyday wear.
Repairability Is Part of Good Design

That's why we keep spare parts available, work with certified watchmakers in Germany, and provide retailers and independent watchmakers with the parts they need.
